Determined, tenacious, and consistent,
amber halliday and marguerite
houston are the quiet achievers of
australian rowing. sharing ten world
championship medals between them,
including five gold, the lightweight
duo are Beijing bound following
olympic pre-selection by Rowing
australia. improving on their 2006
world Championship silver medal,
2007 saw the experienced duo crowned
world Champions in the lightweight
double scull.

However the double’s preparation for the
WorldRowingChampionships in Munich
didn’t pass without challenge. A mysterious
virus struck Halliday, forcing the crew’s
withdrawal from their final at the Rowing
World Cup in Lucerne.

”It disrupted us for about a week,” says Halliday,
28, ”but if anything it took the pressure off.”
Despite promising boat speed following
training camps at St Moritz, Switzerland,
and Varese, Italy, the Australian duo were
understated in their expectations for
Munich.

”I think it made us stronger,” says Houston,
