OLAF TUFTE’S ADVICE ON EATING DURING THE WINTER…
For rowers at the top level winter is the time to put in as many training
hours as possible, and to do this they need a lot of energy.
So for a long winter period the main concern is to get enough food into their
body. My way to manage this is to eat real Norwegian farmer’s food made by
my wife or my mother: a lot of potatoes and meat, vegetables and fruit as well,
and a supply of cereal when necessary. Also as many natural healthy foods as
you can possibly manage, to avoid having to put in too many supplements…
So I tell athletes when I have a speech that I eat one meal a day: it starts at
6.00 and finishes at 22.00.
