Men’s Pair (M2-)
Steve Redgrave (s),
Simon Berrisford (b)
At the 1989 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Berrisford and Redgrave doubled up in the straight
and coxed pair, in which they finished fifth. Redgrave had earned a collection of medals in these two boat
classes during the three previous years with Andrew Holmes, at Olympic and World Championship level.
In the course of the next 11 years, Redgrave would become rowing’s most successful rower ever.
The Pimenov brothers had earned their first World Championship medal ten years earlier in Bled at the
1979 World Rowing Championships. During their career together, they earned seven World Championship
medals.
