Men’s Quadruple Sculls (M4x)
Martin Cross began competing at international senior level in 1977 and brought his rowing career to an end in 1994.
During these nearly 20 years of rowing, he won two Olympic medals, including one gold, and three World Championship
medals. Cross competed in Bled twice, in 1979 and in 1989.

Bled 1989 was Matthew Pinsent’s first senior championships. He later became one of rowing’s most
famous figures, earning four Olympic gold medals and 12 World Championship medals, including 10 golds.
The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens would be his last international regatta.

This was Thorson’s fourth World Championship medal in the double, and second gold. It was the first time
he was competing in the double at World Championship level with Bjoenness - his past partner had been Alf
Hansen. Thorson and Bjoenness would go on to win another World Champion gold and silver.
